A Batangas bishop: watching the Lady Gaga concert is like “joining devil worship.”
Manila Representative Amado Bagatsing: Lady Gaga “flaunts her lifestyle as though this was normal behavior. We need to shield our people from being exposed to artists who destroy our culture, our beliefs and our values. She poses a dangerous source of corruption to our youth.” (Bagatsing has asked the House of...
The History of the Passions
Let others write the history of events that are apparent: the battles and the treaties, the hereditary conflicts, the amassing and dispersion of authority, the struggles among the estates, the territorial ambition that continues to link us to animality; you, the friend of fables, you must write the history of the passions, without which the history of money, labor, and power is...

Obama Says Same-Sex Marriage Should Be Legal →
It’s not just about same-sex marriage, it’s about civil rights. The U.S. has a president who is aware of this, because he lives in the 21st century. Ironically, 30 states still live in the 19th century. Talk about a backward culture.
A Poem, Lost & Found
South
Something is bound
to hold things together
Dark energy Net gain Universal sympathy A big lie
When I listen closely
I am not here
something has been lost
in transit
And so I make up this story about us
You are as far as Australia
is south
and the deep sea trench is at arm’s length
And the universe folds over
the Himalayas in one beautiful blizzard
of emptiness
I never said...

The phrase “under God” was not conceived to promote unity, but capitalism and conservatism. Read this amazing essay and see what the Christian right has done to destroy our lives.

The Minimal Me
This holiday season, during the few days off from work, I decided to embrace the minimal me.
I decided I had to get rid of three things I had too much of: furniture, clothes, and books. The furniture was the easiest to discard. Whatever cluttered my studio apartment had to go. There would be nothing on the walls except a clock, a tile portrait of Pessoa, and a road sign I found in Umbria....

Koyaanisqatsi, 29 years on
Grammelot was able experience Godfrey Reggio’s landmark 1982 film Koyaanisqatsi tonight with live music by the New York Philharmonic and the Philip Glass Ensemble. Twenty nine years on, this film is as relevant and jaw-dropping as when it first came out, and the music, played live and LOUD in the hallowed Avery Fisher Hall, is as cutting edge as it was back in ‘82.

"The whole world is watching" →
Many protesters said they believed the police had tricked them, allowing them onto the bridge, and even escorting them partway across, only to trap them in orange netting after hundreds had entered.
“The cops watched and did nothing, indeed, seemed to guide us onto the roadway,” said Jesse A. Myerson, a media coordinator for Occupy Wall Street. — The New York Times

Exit Music, 9/1-11/2002
This is the final installment of Exit Music, an experimental “novel” written during the 365 days after 9/11. The idea was to do away with the conventions of narrative and simply have a “character” record observations of his exterior and interior worlds, a sort of journal with no fixed direction, and whose sole (and futile) aim was to save every detail, no matter how...
