For God So Loved the 1 Percent →
The phrase “under God” was not conceived to promote unity, but capitalism and conservatism. Read this amazing essay and see what the Christian right has done to destroy our lives.
The First Ever Collection of QRoems →
What is a QRoem? It is simply a poem written in QR code. I’ve created an online collection of my QRoems, which I believe is the first ever in history. Other QRojects (get it?) are in the works, such as an exhibit and the first ever book of QRoems. Check it out and enjoy!

The Minimal Me
This holiday season, during the few days off from work, I decided to embrace the minimal me.
I decided I had to get rid of three things I had too much of: furniture, clothes, and books. The furniture was the easiest to discard. Whatever cluttered my studio apartment had to go. There would be nothing on the walls except a clock, a tile portrait of Pessoa, and a road sign I found in Umbria....

Koyaanisqatsi, 29 years on
Grammelot was able experience Godfrey Reggio’s landmark 1982 film Koyaanisqatsi tonight with live music by the New York Philharmonic and the Philip Glass Ensemble. Twenty nine years on, this film is as relevant and jaw-dropping as when it first came out, and the music, played live and LOUD in the hallowed Avery Fisher Hall, is as cutting edge as it was back in ‘82.
Long before global...

"The whole world is watching" →
Many protesters said they believed the police had tricked them, allowing them onto the bridge, and even escorting them partway across, only to trap them in orange netting after hundreds had entered.
“The cops watched and did nothing, indeed, seemed to guide us onto the roadway,” said Jesse A. Myerson, a media coordinator for Occupy Wall Street. — The New York Times

Conflicting reports as to whether Radiohead is indeed going downtown to join the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Grammelot’s earlier link to the news report mysteriously disappeared. If you’re there and it’s definitely happening, give us a buzz and godspeed.

Exit Music, 9/1-11/2002
This is the final installment of Exit Music, an experimental “novel” written during the 365 days after 9/11. The idea was to do away with the conventions of narrative and simply have a “character” record observations of his exterior and interior worlds, a sort of journal with no fixed direction, and whose sole (and futile) aim was to save every detail, no matter how...

Speaker Boehner on why you should love his plan
Speaking on “The Laura Ingraham Show” today, Speaker Boehner declared why Republicans should support his debt ceiling plan:
“Barack Obama hates it, Harry Reid hates it, Nancy Pelosi hates it. The plan we have got on the table is the best opportunity we have to hold the president’s feet to the fire.”
So there you have it, folks. Mr. Boehner would mortgage our future just to...
Your future is f*cked
Listen up, America: Last night President Obama and Speaker Boehner clearly and unequivocally stated their positions on the debt ceiling impasse.
Pres. Obama said, “The only reason this balanced approach isn’t on its way to becoming law right now is because a significant number of Republicans in Congress are insisting on a different approach, a cuts-only approach — an approach that doesn’t ask the...
Fear of Language
Residents of Arizona, the epicenter of American xenophobia, recently went up in arms against weather reporters’ use of the Arabic word “haboob” for the dust storms that have hit the state. Apparently the residents think it’s a disgrace to use a Middle Eastern word when we’re at war with the Middle East (or so they say). It has been suggested that while they’re...
